Join us for a hands-on rice planting experience in traditional Japanese style from 100years ago. Learn how rice is planted and grow, enjoy playing in mud. It’s a special moment that lets adults reconnect with their inner child.
Fun for everyone—no matter your height, body type, or age, kids and grown-ups alike can dive into the mud and have a blast!
Rice planting event is only once a year from 1st to 5th in May.

Preparation ・ rules for rice planting
- Wear clothes for working outside in mud. Need changes for all from underwear
- Please avoid all injuries when planting rice
- You can only plant rice with your bare foot. There is nothing in rice patty that will injure your foot. Wearing socks, boots will only make uneasy to move and will be stuck in mud
- When rice planting is over wash mud from river flowing from the mountain. Then to use outside shower to clean the mud and then to take shower inside the Kominka house
Things to prepare
- Full set of change from underwear
- Towel
- Sandal
- Gloves for planting rice (no need if you are able to soak your hands in water for long time)
